MY
EXPERIENCE
I
have over 11 years of experience with marketing, information
architecture, interaction design, business strategy, and usability
testing. Working at some of the best interactive agencies,
has afforded me the opportunity to work with some amazing
clients, interesting user communities and very talented co-workers.
I
wanted to share a little about how I work and some of the
lessons I have learned over the years. Check it out.
Love
the whiteboard - I like to start on the whiteboard. Give
me a few dry-erase pens and a whiteboard and I am off to the
races. I like to quickly work through ideas with my team and
the whiteboard seems to be the best method. Since I am artistic
by nature I also enjoy drawing concepts on paper too. Whatever
it takes to get the idea out of my head for people to see
and react to.
Do
the research - I understand the importance of doing the
correct research up front. If you have the right documents,
analytics, and subject matter experts involved you will be
making informed choices instead of taking shots in the dark.
Listen
well - My experience has taught me that great ideas can
come from anyone at anytime. You don't have to be the most
knowledgeable about a given topic or problem to come up with
a great idea. So it's important to listen to all involved.
Understand
your audience - The more information about the potential
users you can uncover the better the end product will be.
Gaining understanding of what the audience wants and needs
is always a major key to my successful projects.
Build
relationships - My goal is to always build long-term relationships
with my clients and my project team members. Respecting the
talents within my client's organization and within my team
is more important to me than being in charge or right.
Work
as a team - I am at my best when I am amongst enthusiastic,
hard-working, fun loving people. I enjoy being a member of
a team and providing vision, guidance, and experience in a
creative playground.
Have
fun - The type of work I am privileged to do is fun. I
enjoy thinking about it, being part of it, and being immersed
in it. I am a technology user to the core; my iPhone (loaded
with apps) is always at my side.
Do
your best - My mom used to say to me "if it's worth
doing, it's worth doing right". That's true with user
experience design as it's true for most things in life. At
the end of the day, I want to feel like I gave it all my best
and I have done work to be proud of.
Get
involved - Get into the work, roll up those sleeves and
dig in! Get the right people involved too. Involving content
people, tech people, design people, and marketing people sooner
than later will make the project run much smoother.
